This is a systematic literature search of studies providing data on melanoma risk in patients with Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (NMC).

Twenty-seven studies with a total of 11,480 patients with NMC and 82 patients who developed melanoma were included for analysis. The prevalence of melanoma was 1.84% in patients with NMC and 2.73% in the subgroup of patients with giant NMC .

The risk of melanoma in the population with NMC appears to have been overestimated in previous studies; however, it is still significantly higher than that of the general population.
